A Delightful Day Out: Zest Singles' Otter Estuary Walk & Lunch at Otterton Mill

This Sunday, we had a delightful day out. There was a great turnout for our Otter Estuary walk, and we were so lucky with the weather, which turned out much better than expected. It was dry and sunny, which made for a perfect day out. Our group of ten met up at the new bridge near the Lilm Kiln car park, a good starting point for our walk along the estuary and the new salt marshes.

As with all Zest Singles events, we kicked off with introductions. It's always nice to see new faces, and a couple of members brought their dogs along, which added to the friendly atmosphere. The walk to Otterton Mill was relaxed and took us a bit over an hour, giving us plenty of time to chat and enjoy the scenery. We stopped a few times to watch the wildlife and just take in the view by the water’s edge.

Heading back along the Otter Estuary, after a yummy lunch at Otterton Mill

At Otterton Mill, we managed to get a couple of tables outside in the sunshine, which was a bonus. The food was good, and we spent around an hour and a half chatting and enjoying the meal before heading back. On our way back along the Otter Estuary, we took a slight detour into the salt marshes to check out a bird viewing point, a nice spot to observe the local wildlife.

I also shared some info about the new extension to the National Nature Reserve near Budleigh Salterton, part of the "King's Series", aimed at promoting biodiversity and natural connections, something that resonates with our walks, where we try to connect with nature and each other.
